Job Summary:
Position Description
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in Software Design to support the UTDesign EPICS Program. EPICS@UTD, launched in 2016, provides students with hands-on opportunities to address real-world problems and positively impact the community. The program serves more than 330 students each academic year and supports 25-30 community-engaged projects per semester.
We are seeking a passionate educator committed to teaching foundational principles in design and computing, grounded in human-centered design methodology. The successful candidate will:
· Teach and mentor several multidisciplinary student design teams.
· Contribute to the development and delivery of curricular materials that support community-driven design work.
· Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving ability, responsibility, and a commitment to high-quality academic and experiential learning standards.
Faculty in this role will work closely with — and report to — the Director of the EPICS Program and the Director of the First Year Program.
Responsibilities:
· Teach 3–4 sections per semester, primarily within the two EPICS courses offered every term.
· Take charge of the curriculum development and course assessment
· Participate in the faculty learning communities within the First Year Program
· Potentially advise senior design teams and lead additional project-based learning initiatives within ECS
· Potentially collaborate with First Year Program classes in future semesters.
Appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Assistant Professor of Practice, depending on experience.
The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: Master of Science in Computer Science or a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience:
· PhD or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field
· A minimum of 3 years of industry experience.
· Professional and/or teaching experience in engineering, computing, or technology.
· Experience supporting or mentoring project-based learning.
· Commitment to delivering inclusive, high-quality teaching that engages students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science
