The Department of Nanoscience at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a research team focused on a Department of Defense-funded project, which focuses on understanding interfacial interactions between microbes and Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs). A talented individual who is an expert in either the field of Materials science or nanoscience, with a strong hands-on experience in electron microscopy tools, is highly encouraged to apply.
The primary responsibilities include: (1) operating and maintaining the High-resolution Transmission Electron microscope (25%), (2) Characterization of biohybrid materials and substrates using electron microscopy tools (25%), (3) biohybrid device fabrications and performance evaluations for charge capacitors and photovoltaic cells (30%), (4) Scientific reports writing and manuscript preparation (20%).
In addition to the above responsibilities, additional tasks include: (1) driving the project goals and meeting the project objectives on time, (2) overseeing one undergraduate and one graduate student on the project, and (3) managing the lab.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Materials Science or materials science-related fields, including biomolecular science, chemical, and biological sciences, nanoscale sciences, and Nanotechnology.
Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Materials Science or materials science-related field with extensive hands-on experience in electron microscopy (HR-TEM and SEM).
Having exposure to microbiology research, working with bacteria, and interfacing live microbes with abiotic substrates are highly preferred.
