The Advanced Materials and Electrochemistry for Energy (AMEE) laboratory at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (PI Prof. Özgür Çapraz and Co-PI Prof. Deepa Madan) has an opening for two postdoctoral research positions. The project is about developing next-generation battery technologies. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on next-generation battery technologies by developing innovative polymer/gel electrolytes and designing strategies to mitigate chemo-mechanical instabilities in the electrode materials. The details of the position will be discussed with the selected candidates.
General Requirements for the post-doc positions:
Doctorate in material science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry or related fields.
Ability to move to and work at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA.
Proven track record of first-author publications and presentations. A minimum of two peer-reviewed, first-author publications.
Proven experience with electrochemical energy storage or conversion systems.
Specific requirements for a post-doc position on mitigating chemo-mechanical instabilities:
Fundamental understanding of mechanics of materials, electrochemistry, and energy storage systems..
Proven track record in either computational or experimental approach to investigate chemo-mechanical instabilities in battery materials
Candidates with experience in QCM-D, acoustic measurements, or multi-scale modeling are especially encouraged to apply.
Specific requirements for a post-doc position on developing gel/polymer electrolytes:
Fundamental understanding of polymer chemistry, material synthesis, electrochemistry, structural and surface characterizations.
Expertise in Polymer electrolyte synthesis and/or characterization of polymer electrolytes
Be familiar with electrolyte engineering methods, activation energy calculations, and the hydrogen evolution reaction analysis etc .
A single PDF shall contain a cover letter, CV, contact information for 2 references, and a copy of the two relevant publications. Applications should highlight their interest in the available positions of either developing gel/polymer electrolytes or chemo-mechanical instabilities. Questions can be sent to the AMEE team (amee@umbc.edu); the subject line must contain "Question about available Post-doc position".
Review of application materials will begin June 1, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.
A background check will be required.
