The primary work for this fellowship will be in the area of bariatric interventions in a large animal model and include techniques such as MRI-guided cryoablation, embolization, radio-embolization, novel intra-arterial therapeutic approaches, and the development of embolics. CT, X-ray angiography, PET-CT, MRI, magnetic particle imaging (MPI), and magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) will be utilized. A secondary aspect may be in the area of radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) for osteosarcoma. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of the studies from simulations/phantoms study design, data acquisition, in vivo animal experiments, data analysis, and manuscript writing.
Key Responsibilities:
Organizing and performing large animal experiments in bariatric interventional radiology (IR) techniques and cardiac catheterization
Hands-on training in percutaneous and intravascular/cardiac interventions will be taught under the supervision of Drs. Kraitchman and Weiss
Performing follow-up image acquisition, typically MRI and cone-beam CT, as needed, with assistance from imaging technologists.
Data acquisition, archiving, and analysis using available software tools.
Pre- and post-procedure animal care in concert with veterinary staff
Organizing and performing studies in client-owned dogs with metastatic osteosarcoma
Assist with PET-CT and SPECT-CT imaging, image segmentation, and data analysis before and after treatment with RPT.
Research fellow will be expected to submit and present scientific abstracts at national/international meetings and publish manuscripts.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers and engineers.
Qualifications
Key Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry/Biology or an MD or equivalent with experience in radiology, surgery, or interventional techniques
Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative research environment.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with simulation software, Microsoft office, and database management.
Experience in clinical research or basic/translation research or experience in radiological imaging is preferred but optional.
Hands-on experience with X-ray fluoroscopy or minimal invasive technique is desirable.
Experience with radiochemistry or wet chemistry skills is desirable.
Strong publication record in relevant fields.
Application Instructions
Application Process: Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
A detailed CV.
A cover letter describing your relevant research experience and career goals.
Contact information for three professional references.
The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) was founded in 1876 as the nation's first research university, dedicated to bringing the benefits of discovery to the world. JHU is the largest private employer in Baltimore and Maryland, making a large economic impact in the city and state. We enroll more than 30,000 full- and part-time students across ten academic divisions, offering in-person and remote learning in over 400 programs. Not only are we located in Baltimore, but we also have a presence in Washington, D.C.
