Deceuninck North America is seeking a Composite Process Engineer for its North American Headquarters. The Composite Process Engineer is responsible for refining and optimizing the processes used in the production of composite materials. The Composite Process Engineer will utilize both an analytical approach as well as hands-on experimentation to define new processes, optimize existing process, support new material development, and support R&D activities. The ideal candidate will have technical mastery in pultruded components, who is also a highly motivated self-starter with a solutions mindset. They will be detailed oriented and data-driven, balancing both analytical and experimental approaches to pragmatically find solutions and solve problems. This position reports to the Operational Excellence Manager.
Core Responsibilities:
Champion optimization of pultruded composites and manufacturing processes to support product performance and longevity, and production efficiency and productivity.
Characterize effects of composite construction variations on processability and product performance.
Support engineering and R&D pultrusion trials.
Support quality sustainment and improvement projects.
Identify, propose, and support implementation of new equipment, technologies, and processes to promote safety, quality, and productivity.
Support business growth by aiding in the research, trials, and manufacturing implementation of new products.
Support pultrusion operations team as directed, providing technical assistance and training to crews on pultrusion processes and equipment operation.
Partner with design engineers to develop custom fixtures and tooling to support the pultrusion process.
Maintain clear, complete, and accurate records for project documentation and future reference.
Qualifications:
5+ years of professional experience working in a manufacturing environment with composites materials strongly preferred.
3 years of experience leading R&D and/or industrialization projects in a manufacturing environment and preforming process validations, preferably plastics or composites industry
Demonstrated experience developing and processing composite materials with pultrusion technology.
Proficiency with common thermoset resin systems (including polyester, vinyl-ester, and urethane) and fiberglass.
Experience partnering with R&D engineering, operations, vendors and other cross-functional / cross organizational stakeholders to develop and implement new manufacturing processes.
Strong evidence of delivering process improvements with bottom line impact.
Ability to communicate effectively, through required means, to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple assignments simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, material science, mechanical, industrial or composites preferred required); MBA or master’s degree is a differentiator.
Lean 6-Sigma Certification, desirable.
PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.
