The University of Tennessee is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a postdoctoral associate position focused on Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing. This position resides in the University of Tennessee (UT) Office of Aerospace and Defense, supervised by a collaborating team of faculty within the Materials Science and Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering departments. The successful candidate will investigate new coated and un-coated alloy and ceramic powders specifically suited for the CSAM process, as well as innovative pre-, in-situ and post-process manufacturing approaches. A suite of CSAM equipment, CNC machining, and metrology capabilities at UT will be applied to optimize test articles and production scale samples. Metal-ceramic composite/hybrid structures and interfaces for coating applications may also be explored. The candidate will use advanced characterization facilities at UT's Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (IAMM) and at national user facilities to examine thermomechanical properties and microstructures, including type-1, -2, and -3 residual stress distributions. The position will allow the postdoctoral scientist to develop expertise, broaden experience and to interact with a diverse set of scientists at UT and with several collaborating institutions and industrial partners.

The initial appointment is a temporary full-time assignment of 12-24 months.
