Baylor University is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to serve the mission and vision of the University at The Point-of-Need (PONI) Manufacturing Center in the Department of Mechanical Engineering by performing research-related tasks.
A Doctoral Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field and seven years of relevant materials science and/or engineering work experience (including relevant research experience during PhD) is required.
Required Experience:
Research experience in mechanical engineering, materials physics, materials science, and/or materials engineering, with significant computational modeling, simulation, and theory experience
Record of peer-reviewed publication in mechanical engineering, materials science/physics
Preferred Experience:
Additional research experience working as, or in close collaboration with, laboratory and experimental materials science researchers.
Machine learning and artificial intelligence
Experience with advanced materials, metallic alloys, or microstructural engineered systems.
Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies and equipment
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Perform multiscale materials modeling and simulations to support on-going projects in advanced materials and manufacturing
Uncover new materials science/physics relationships using techniques such as atomistic modeling, phase-field modeling, continuum modeling methods, and SPH process modeling
Work closely with researchers to collaborate on integrated research to guide laboratory experiments in developing additive friction stir deposition process conditions, and formulating new fundamental science
Use engineering and material science knowledge to design lightweight materials with advanced functional properties, with the aim of informing new design principles for additive manufacturing
Publish peer-reviewed journal papers based on research results
Develop and submit proposals for to secure external funding
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
Comply with university policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
