The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time faculty position. This tenured faculty member will also serve as Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and lead the faculty in continuing to grow and strengthen a dynamic engineering program.
Established in 2002, the Biomedical Engineering Department is primarily housed in the Science & Technology Center at Tufts University. The Department currently consists of 11 full-time faculty. The new Chair will have the opportunity to recruit several new faculty members to its ranks in the next few years. Faculty scholarship spans a broad spectrum of interests including: tissue engineering and regenerative medicine including biomaterials and cellular agriculture, and in sensing systems including medical electronics and optics, instrumentation, measurement, and imaging. The Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering, MS degree in bioengineering, and an MS and PhD in materials science and engineering. BME also offers a certificate in biomedical engineering and cellular agriculture. We expect to fill this position at the academic rank of full professor. Primary evaluation criteria will include a demonstrated ability to build and sustain cross-disciplinary research programs, leadership potential, and a track record of successful and inclusive mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. Outstanding candidates from any subfield of biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will maintain an active, highly visible research program and demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring.
