The newly established Nano-Sensing and Innovations Laboratory of Dr. Buddini Karawdeniya (https://go.osu.edu/bkarawdeniyalab), Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to perform independent research on solid-state nanopore single molecule sensing, gas sensing, and other related surface modified sensing platforms. The laboratory works on innovative fundamental and translational research on nanotechnology-based chemically enhanced sensing platforms, innovative protocols, and systems for biomedical diagnostic applications. The individual is expected to Independently carry out, assist with, and communicate research lab experiments and activities to the Principal Investigator (PI); perform data acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation; oversee the establishment of new experimental setups; write progress reports and summarize results; prepare scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and presentations; support, and mentor other laboratory members and students; perform administrative tasks, including maintaining stock reagents and solutions, and ordering supplies and equipment; ensure compliance with OSHA and EHS regulations; perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Doctorate in a related discipline such as biomedical engineering, analytical chemistry, biomedical sciences, materials science, chemical engineering, materials engineering, biophysics, or a related field.
Demonstrated laboratory experience in solid-state nanopore sensing and/or chemiresistive gas sensing or other related areas.
Working basic knowledge of biosensing, surface chemical functionalization, nanotechnology, microscopy (SEM, TEM, AFM), and spectroscopy techniques (e.g.: UV-Vis, IR, Raman).
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently, adapt, learn new techniques, and apply academic and practical knowledge to research are essential.
Demonstrated ability to generate new research ideas.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, team player with the ability and willingness to support other team members and mentor students.
Desired:
Software skills in Python, LabVIEW, Mathematica, and MATLAB.
Demonstrated experience in nanofabrication/materials synthesis and engineering/microfluidics is desired
