Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to successfully perform the position
Thorough knowledge of target and beam dump systems in heavy ion accelerator
High level of expertise in the materials science field
Ability to use an electron microscope that produces an image of the material for studying radiation damage
Ability to perform thermal/mechanical simulations
Ability to design experimental instruments with scientific tools
Ability to perform shift work periodically
Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly, both verbally and in writing, with all audiences

Required Degree
Doctorate -Physics or material science
Minimum Requirements
PhD in Physics or material science
Record of accomplishment in the field of expertise
Experience in thermal analysis with scientific software (COMSOL multi-physics of ANSYS fluent)
Desired Qualifications
Experience with software and hardware for instrument design and fabrication
Experience at experimental research projects, data analysis, physics interpretations and reporting of the results
