Sand Hazards and Opportunities for Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) Research Center, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on various research projects on developing resilient and sustainable construction materials.
The successful applicant will work on three main areas leading to the success of this fascinating project:
(i) to design and develop innovative building materials, including but not limited to bioengineered cement-based soil stabilization material for hazardous waste, biochar cement composites, magnesium-based cement, limestone calcined clay cement, and self-healing and self-sensing cement with vernacular materials or byproducts, (ii) to engineer innovative construction materials with superior properties, (iii) to assist the development, testing, and application of lunar regolith simulants targeted at proposed landing sites of future lunar missions. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have experience in the development and performance assessment of cementitious materials. Excellent experimental skills relevant to the project are favored (in particular, experience in advanced material characterization tools such as TGA, Calorimetry, XRD, SEM, and corrosion tests). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or closely related fields from a reputable university, along with a strong record of publications in high-impact journals within the field. Candidates with outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities are preferred. The responsibilities are (i) performing assigned research projects, (ii) mentoring undergraduate and graduate research assistants, (iii) leading the authorship of journal publications and project reports, and (iv) drafting future research proposals.
