JOB SUMMARY
Postdoctoral Research Associate: Materials Chemistry. The Biomaterials Design Group led by Leila Deravi in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University seeks an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher in the field of optical materials. The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to perform and communicate the research, where the focus of the research will be to generate nano- and micro-particles from organic biomolecules and to investigate their structure and optical function. The candidate should have a strong background in materials chemistry and be familiar with creating and characterizing particles using optical spectroscopy and electron microscopy. A basic understanding of organic chemistry, optics, and electronics as it relates to particle design and synthesis strategies will be required. Experience with particle modeling would be a bonus. The candidate should have an interest in managing highly collaborative research efforts with chemists, biologists, and engineers. It is expected that the postdoc will contribute to research grant proposals and reports, write manuscripts, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. The appointment is for one year and may be extended pending regular progress evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in chemistry, environmental science, materials science/engineering or related field; strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in the design and execution of experiments. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and proven track record of mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments.
2) Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals, etc.
3) Assist in laboratory management.
4) Train graduate students.
