Position Summary The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications to fill a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Jordi Cabana.
This position will advance our knowledge of fundamental processes of ion conduction relevant to batteries by combining model systems with the characterization of structure and transport. The successful applicant will have experience with the discovery and synthesis of complex inorganic solids in both bulk and nanocrystal forms, and characterization of structure with scattering methods. Experts in colloidal methods of synthesis are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with total scattering is desired. No experience in electrochemistry or the field of technological application is needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform the synthesis of inorganic solids with high ionic conductivity, particularly in nanocrystalline forms that are processable into controlled architectures.
Perform structural analysis using powder diffraction and total scattering, including pair distribution function.
Characterize the structure and transport properties of the materials synthesized.
Travel and conduct experiments at out-of-state or international synchrotron facilities.
Write and publish scientific manuscripts, give presentations at local and international conferences.
Mentor undergraduate/graduate students.
Integrate research activities within a multi-institutional team. The group of Prof. Jordi Cabana operates at both the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and at the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). While the host institution for this position will be UIC, there will be opportunities to leverage facilities at ANL for this research.
