A postdoctoral position is available with the research group of Professor Gabriel Kotliar at the Rutgers Center for Materials Theory (CMT) starting immediately. Salary will be commensurate with ability and experience.
Our research interests are very broad. We are working on a variety of research problems ranging from the conceptual challenges posed by strongly correlated electron materials, to the development of codes to carry out first principles calculations of materials. We work on the interpretation of experiments, and the design of new materials together with experimental groups. We are interested in developing new field theory methods, computational methods and electronic structure techniques for strongly correlated systems, and our research program is suitable for strong candidates with expertise in any of these areas.
We have strong ties with many exciting theoretical and experimental research efforts in the NJ/NY area, including Simons Collaboration Grant on the many electron problem and a DOE grant with the center for theoretical spectroscopy and material design (joint effort with LANL Rutgers and Brookhaven National Laboratories). We have close ties with the chemistry department at Rutgers, with the flatiron CCQ, and with other theory and experimental members of the Rutgers and Brookhaven Condensed Matter Theory and Experiment groups. The successful candidate will have opportunities to diversity their research through these collaborations. Many postdocs trained in Professor Kotliar's group have continued to have world‐class reputation for ground‐breaking and creative research.
Minimum Education and Experience:
We are looking for outstanding applicants with excellent knowledge of many body physics and/or electronic structure, and exceptionally strong analytical and /or computational skills. Excellent communications skills are a strong plus. A Ph.D in physics, materials science, computer science or chemistry is required. A CV, publication list, research interest and three letters of recommendation are required. Applications will be considered until the job is filled.
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a leading national public research university and the state's preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. Rutgers is dedicated to teaching that meets the highest standards of excellence; to conducting research that breaks new ground; and to turning knowledge into solutions for local, national, and global communities. As it was at our founding in 1766, the heart of our mission is preparing students to become productive members of society and good citizens of the world. Rutgers teaches across the full educational spectrum: preschool to precollege; undergraduate to graduate and postdoctoral; and continuing education for professional and personal advancement. Rutgers is New Jersey's land-grant institution and one of the nation's foremost research universities, and as such, we educate, make discoveries, serve as an engine of economic growth, and generate ideas for improving people's lives.
