The George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions in the broad area of computing with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. Outstanding candidates at higher ranks may also be considered.
We are seeking candidates whose research fits within at least one of the following areas:
algorithms in the field: This includes computing related to domains such as medicine, climate change, energy systems, material design, and power systems.
artificial intelligence and machine learning: This includes algorithms, architectures, optimization, stochastics, simulation, physics-infused models, and computer systems for AI/ML.
computing on future platforms: This includes research areas such as federated computing, edge computing, embedded computing, probabilistic computing, the Internet of Things, and massively distributed networked computing.
responsible computing: This includes research areas such as fairness, privacy, and energy efficiency such as high-performance computing.
secure and trustworthy computing: This covers work in computer security, communication security, and the construction of resilient computational and communication systems.
The selected candidate will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in their home department; perform high-quality research in their specialized area and present findings from their research in peer-reviewed publications and conferences; establish a strong research program supported by extramural funding; be involved in service to the university and broader scientific community; and collaborate with faculty in diverse disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Computational or Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or a related field conferred by the year employment commences and professional experience consistent with the position rank. All applicants should demonstrate excellence in scholarship, teaching, and collegial service.
