The Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University – Camden invites applications from a diverse group of candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position, which is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2024. This tenure-track position is at the Assistant Professor level and is open to scientists whose research interests address issues pertaining to broad aspects of Sustainability. We are particularly interested in individuals whose sustainability research encompasses areas such as green chemistry, environmental chemistry, polymer science, energy or battery chemistry, renewable materials/biomaterials, bio-inorganic, organometallic and computational chemistry. The research on sustainable forensic technologies or environmental forensic sciences are also encouraged to apply. Minimum qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field. The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and participate in the Chemistry Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester, with possible course releases for administrative duties and well-funded research. Collaborative opportunities outside of the Department are encouraged and are available with science faculty affiliated with the Center of Computational and Integrative Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Forensic Sciences and Biology.
This search is part of a Strategic Cluster hiring at Rutgers-Camden in the area of sustainability and is supported by funds from the Rutgers Presidential Diversity Hiring Initiative. As such, the successful candidate is also expected to be an active participant in the sustainability cluster and its associated activities such as program development and community awareness. Establishment of the cluster hiring will advance academic diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promote diversity and cultivate talents from underrepresented groups.
Special Instructions to Applicants: Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Sciences or a related field such as Material Science, Chemical Engineering, etc. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in both research and teaching that incorporate a chemical approach to Sustainability application. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in field-relevant academic journals as appropriate for this stage of career; research that targets such publication venues; presentations at significant disciplinary conferences; grants or awards as appropriate for stage of career; current and past awards; and strong endorsements by referees who maintain national stature in their sub-disciplines. Evidence for excellence will be provided through strong letters of reference; a research statement; and a teaching statement.

The research statement must discuss the impact of current and future research on Sustainability. (5) A statement to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
