Day to Day Responsibilities:
 
·         Execute measurements plan to include ongoing glass measurements and equipment accuracy and reliability
·         Evaluate trends in data, investigating for root cause and propose action plans
·         Use engineering principles and data to troubleshoot operational issues related to glass technology and raw materials
·         Support experiments with raw materials and glass compositions
·         Interface with internal customers, Quality, Supply Chain, Mixing, Melting and Forming for production, including new or modified raw materials, raw materials processes, and technology
·         Use KT, risk assessment, DMAIC, Innovation and other tools to deliver results
·         Track and report on critical quality metrics
·         Identifying, troubleshooting, and correcting equipment issues
·         Follow-up and oversee equipment preventive maintenance and calibration
·         Provide guidance/training to other personnel on how to perform testing properly
 
 
Travel Requirements:
 
·         Domestic travel and International travel are not common, but can occur in this job (<10%)
 
Projects involved with:
 
·         Process engineering, laboratory analysis, technical management of glass trials and raw materials
 
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
 
·         Typical minimum schedule is M-F, 7-5
·         The plant has eight weekend teams that rotate coverage (six or seven weekends per year, including one major holiday or one to two minor holidays)
·         Occasional weekend support for developments

Scope of Position:
 
Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects in the area of glass technology, raw material, and mixing. Actively participate within and beyond department boundaries to resolve process and issues. Day to Day Responsibilities:
 
·         Glass technology process development and engineering. Lead all activity related to achieving process objectives.
·         Worldwide manufacturing support. Provide second level troubleshooting for operational issues related to glass technology and raw materials
·         Technical analysis of glass technology, raw material, and melting processes. Application of analytical results to improving processes and meeting customer requirements.
·         Interface with external suppliers, Supply Chain, Mixing, and Melting for production trials of new or modified raw materials, raw material processes, and technology.
·         Interface with plant engineering and glass technology to facilitate the introduction and migration of new raw materials, processes, products, and technology into manufacturing.
·         Design, implementation, execution and analysis of process experiments.
·         Work in a cross-functional environment - link with development, quality, mixing and manufacturing to deliver process improvements and solutions
·         Use KT, risk assessment, DMAIC, Innovation, and other tools to deliver results.
·         Use engineering principles and data to help solve problems and trouble shoot production issues
·         Ensure best glass technology practices are communicated and evaluated and implemented as standard procedures
·         Develop and implement measures for raw material suppliers to ensure adequate supply and quality; audit suppliers to ensure compliance with established quality and process requirements
·         Assist in researching customer complaints and requests to determine root cause as well as corrective and preventative actions.
·         Track and report on critical quality metrics. Alert appropriate levels to trends and critical quality issues.
 
 
Travel Requirements:
 
·         Domestic and International travel required - Overall 10 to 15%.
·         International assignments may range from 1 to 6 weeks in duration.
 
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
 
·         Typically M-F, 8-5 with frequent after-hour phone conferences

Research and Development in the area of glass (frit) powders.  Develop frit powders with targeted performance characteristics for use in a wide range of Microcircuit Materials (MCM) thick film and Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC) compositions.  Provide assistance to production for product scale-up and ongoing support to production teams for continuous improvement of yield and quality.  The position will have at least one direct technician report and will work closely with multi-functional teams consisting of formulation scientists, process engineers and technicians. The candidate will be expected to publish patents as needed to support new developments.

Scope of Position:

 

Projects involved with:

 

  Development, implementation, and use of extended, improved and new property characterization capabilities

  Provide theoretical and/or hands-on experimental guidance to established property measurement facilities to assist maintenance of capabilities.

 

Role within group:

  Function as the technical expert for thermophysical measurements in the analytical laboratory, primarily in areas such as viscometry, viscoelasticity, expansivity, densitometry.

  Member of a department with no direct reports delivering capability and solutions to laboratory team and internal customers – primarily in research and development functions.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

 

  Setup and/or perform specialized property measurements to meet research and development customer needs, both for one-of-a-kind questions or for long-term needs.

  Support scientists and engineers on their project deliverables through consulting, identifying external characterization resources, and problem solving.

  Define requirements, manage implementation or access, and validate operation of measurement capabilities.

  Work with internal and external technical resources to deliver desired results.

  Communicate project progress to team and customers

  Compile and report results.
