Position Summary: CoorsTek is seeking a highly motivated engineer to implement material & process improvements, specify & design new equipment in a high volume production environment. Ideal candidates should be technically skilled, self-motivated and hands-on.
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of chemistry, ceramic and engineering principals to solve problems.
Develops processes and tests materials used in a number of forming operations including but not limited to tape casting, dry pressing, high temperature kiln firing.
Applies the required understanding of:
Material selection and processing such as mixing, grinding, crushing, particle size reduction
Slurry preparation, rheology and measurement of both aqueous and solvent based slurries
Organic chemistry and the use of binders in ceramic material preparation
Determine the nature of technical problems and solutions such as material redesign, substitution of raw materials, organic formulation changes, surface cleanliness and post sintering processes such as lapping, polishing and grinding.
Develops and improves manufacturing process design for product orders, working closely with production departments to develop cost effective manufacturing processes to meet or exceed customer requirements.
Mechanically inclined to trouble shoot, identify and correct processing issues with equipment.
Performs tests and measurements throughout the manufacturing processes to determine degree of control over variables that affect the form, fit and function of key product characteristics.
Set up DOE’s and use of analytical techniques such as SPC
Operates with substantial latitude, making decisions to further company goals.
Plans, schedules, documents and coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work as a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
Works effectively toward company goals with technical and other disciplines including R&D, sales, production, etc.
May supervise and direct the work of other engineers, technicians and others as needed
May represent the organization in conferences or with customers.
Education, Training, and Skill Recommendations/Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic or Materials engineering or other applicable discipline
* 5-7 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment working on technical ceramics and/or engineering materials
* Experience in preparation, processing and equipment in a production environment is a must
* Experience in non-oxide materials a plus
* A strong mechanical aptitude a plus
* Lapping and polishing of ceramic materials a plus
