·Process engineer that develops and applies fundamental understanding or engineering principles to develop, improve or transfer glass melting and delivery processes.
·All glass related Corning business divisions; from development to manufacturing.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
·Melting and delivery system process development and engineering. Lead activities related to achieving process objectives.
·Technical analyses of melting and delivery processes and application of results to improving processes and meeting customer requirements.
·Interface with Development and Engineering to develop and lead production trials of new products, processes, and technology to improve melting operations.
·Design and implementation of process experiments.
·Worldwide migration of new processes, products, and technologies.
·Develop subject matter expertise and leadership in glass melting and delivery.
·Based in Corning, NY
·On-site assignments at manufacturing operations likely, in US and Asia
Travel: 30+% - mostly Asia
Hours of Work: 40 hrs, Monday-Friday; weekend possible depending on location
Education / Experience:
·M.S. – Ph.D. glass, ceramics, materials science, chemical or mechanical engineering
·1 - 3 years glass process development, melting
·Technical: Understanding of glass melting processes including furnace and delivery system process design, glass technology, refractories, and precious metal applications; familiar with fluid dynamics and heat transfer. Technical curiosity a must.
·Experience: Manufacturing or engineering experience in the glass industry, melting.
·Mobility: Willing to travel and spend time at manufacturing locations.
·Data analysis skills: Ability to use the PC to analyze process data and trends to reach conclusions that help solve melting process problems.
·Working knowledge of statistics and application of tools for process control and management.
·Multi-lingual: Japanese, Cantonese.
·Strong interpersonal skills - effective at interacting and communicating across payroll and management levels.
·Able to work in a team environment to solve problems, create technology or produce a product.
·Able to lead a small technical team or provide technical leadership in a larger project team that has project leadership in place.
·Confident presentation skills that convince customers and management of technical direction - ability to tailor message to the audience.
