
Position Description
We are currently seeking a Furnace Engineer to join our North America R&D team at our world headquarters in Perrysburg, Ohio.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform duties necessary for the safe and effective operation of bench scale glass reactor (melting vessel) and mini-melter to support the pilot demonstrations of these new melting and forming technologies. Provide operational feedback and input to the design teams as the technologies go from bench scale pilots to industrial designs. Then support the operations of these melting and forming technologies through the scale-up of industrial demonstrations.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Develop knowledge and skill in general batch and furnace operating procedures.
Support R&D projects by safely and effectively operating small scale batching and furnaces in pilot plant.
Provide operational input to the R&D teams into the designs of the furnaces and reactors.
At the direction of the R&D teams, execute batching and furnace trials at manufacturing locations and the pilot plant.
Develop and maintain excellent protocols for safety and housekeeping associated with batching and furnace operations in the pilot plant.
SCOPE AND IMPACT:
This position will support the key R&D projects focused on melting and forming technologies by operating pilot furnace equipment to enable experimentation by the R&D teams and provide operational feedback on the equipment designs and capabilities. This position will also enable conducting trials at manufacturing locations that involve changes in batching or furnace operations in support of the R&D projects.
Position Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in glass science, ceramic science, materials science with a glass or ceramic specialization, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering.
10+ years of relevant experience in batching or furnace design and/or operations.
Strong communication skills are required to communicate and collaborate with project teams.
Demonstrated computer skills (general PC knowledge, MS Office applications, engineering & scientific tools).
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Up to 15% including both domestic and international.
